How do you acquire the fabric you use to sew your crafts? I used to shop the Walmart section back when they had a full time person working the counter with knowledge of sewing and supplies. I'd drive over on my lunch break from work and chat with them for my hour lunch, then buy a couple yards from the $1 per yard bin. That's how I got my stockpile of fabric for the most part. But have you ever considered going thrifting for supplies? Whether it's yard sales or thrift stores, you can find some really good deals for little money.
Thrifting Tips:
- Check the clearance racks for clothes that are out of season. You can use your seam ripper to get the most use out of all that fabric.
- Search for 100% cotton shirts, pants, jackets or even bed sheets that have no stains. Every inch of fabric is worth every penny.
- Go to the blanket section and look for linens, pillow cases, baby receiving blankets and even towels. You'd be surprised what you can use all that good fabric for.
- Look for containers that can be used for storage of fabrics, notions and smaller items to hang on the wall for storage.
- Some thrift stores have crafting sections and have bundles of bags with miscellaneous items that will cost you next to nothing. Sift through it when you get home and what you don't want, give back to the store you bought it from or sell online.
- Patterns, patterns, patterns - Every thrift store I've been to has at least a small pile of sewing patterns. And for less than a dollar each, you could find high dollar patterns to at least get you started on a new project.
- Clothing items with high quality buttons. You can never have enough buttons on hand.
